I'm going to miss my 17-55... 2.8 and IS. Very handy lens. That's what has me torn between the 24-70 and the 24-105 (2.8 VS IS, and the obvious range difference).

Definitely wait for the 5D3. In the meantime, make some money. Invest your $3,500. Put half in Laudus Growth Investors US Large Cap (LGILX) and the other half in Conoco Phllips (COP). You probably won't get a double but the appreciation will pay for a good chunk of the 5D3 when you eventually buy it during the after Christmas sale of January 2013.

Mk II is amazing...get it now, you won't regret it. You could be waiting a long time for the Mk III, which is time wasted and you could have enjoyed that Mk II so so much :)

The advise to invest in the stock market is presumably tongue in cheek? Rather than making anything this year if we see the promised "double dip" deflation you might lose some.

No, my advise remains to buy now, knowing what you are getting. I know the 5D2 is not perfect, but Canon seem unlikely to produce a digital version of the Eos-3 any time soon so I have compromised. I'm happy to use it for 3 years or so, until the next but one generation of DSLR's appear.

I just sold my 24-105 in favour of the 24-70, and its been a great move so far :)
