Cannon 600d Video only last about 1 minute and a half?

Hey guys, I have a brand new 600d Canon, I did not buy the best memory card for it. Its an 8gb. The video however only seems to last 1 and a half minutes approx. But this can be repeated time and time again. Why will it not record until I said it can stop. Im assuming my memory card does not help

Any reccomendations? Help?

try low level format of the card itself - its in the menu for format - hope that helps!

The speed of your memory card is not enough
Try to use Lexar memory , speed from 100x and up

You didn't state what class card you got in 8 gb, camera accessories such as memory cards are Not the place to go cheap. Buy class 10 cards, they can record videos without as much buffering!!!!!!

Canon's manuals ask for a Class 6, which means a card can write 6MB/s.
1080i recording need around 5.6MB/s.

Do a test video, look for a "five level indicator" which shows how full your camera's buffer is while it's trying to write to a slow card. When the buffer's full, the recording stops.

Check your manual. Look at the notes at the end of the Movie Recording section.

If you bought a Class 6 or higher, then maybe you have a counterfeit one from eBay, or your problem might be solved by formatting the card in the camera. Don't know why formatting works, but I've seen it recommended a lot, and was very surprised when it has worked for me twice in the past.

(PS: Class 10 is also referred to as "U1" now. Class 20 will be U2, etc. Maybe you have one labelled like that.)

Cool guys, ill have a look around and format the card . Im from the UK, so I will see if I can find an equivalent. The camera was purchased from a legit store called currys in the UK. So it shouldnt be counterfeit. Any UK guys reccomend me a card for this problem. I will try all te above too

Definately the card. I was actually dumb enough to upgrade cameras once thinking it was the camera's fault. Also I have found many 'no-name' SDHC cards that list as class 6 or 10 are pathetic for video. get a good brand name class 10 and you will be amazed at the difference.

I had a Trancend Class 4 that I was using in my 550D and could only get about 1 minute of video until it stopped. I got a couple of 16Gb Class 10 Duracell SDHC from www.7dayshop.com and from then on I could record the full 30 minutes and the burst capacity went from the mid 30's with the class 4 to the mid 50's with the class 10. They're only around £16 each and definitely worth getting.

I'm surprised you got that much before it stopped. The camera manual states Class 6 minimum for video. This was not a brand-name issue.

The class rating is a hurdle. For example, there's nothing between Class 6 and Class 10, so a Class 6 card might be able to write 6.01MB/s, or it might do 9.99MB/s. The Class 4 might have been a 'good one'

Also, Class 10 is currently the highest official class, so it covers everything at or above 10 MB/s. Some manufacturers are producing cards at 15 MB/s and some at 20 MB/s. IIRC, Sandisk has one that is up around 90 MB/s, but all of these will be marked as Class 10. No camera that uses SDHC can make use of faster than Class 10, though, so the extra speed would only benefit reading the card into your computer. The faster cards typically have the manufacturers speed claims also on the label.

Also, read and write speed are different many times. Your camera cares about write speed; you, when copying files into your computer, care about read speed.
