What kind of generator do you use with what/how many lights? Now you've got me thinking.

Thats the problem right there :(
I have the dual voltage Elinchrom BXRi. I have to look at an EU 1000 or higher. I used the EU2000 from my buddy who uses it for his motor home.

If I had regular lights I may get by on something else (like a cheap one from the chineese embassy (harbor freight)) but have not looked into it yet

The only good thing is there is a more of a use for a generator than a battery pack.

Dual voltage lights have always been a problem on any of the vagabonds. So that may be where the problem is.

Thanks everybody for the response. I can live with a 5 second refresh with what I will be shooting. I have smaller lights that will be used with it as well. But if I need the 1000 i'd like to know it will work or at least know that if it is slow it is not just me, but how simply what you got to live with.

I've used the Photogenic 2500DR (1000ws) with the Vagabond Mini with no problems..... about a 6 second recycle time at full power.....

The D1 has a battery (BT) setting which increases the recycle time (I'm at about 4 seconds, I believe) but also, more importantly, cuts the huge spike/power draw that the strobe experiences in order to get the fastest possible recycle time. Doing so protects the strobe and the VML. And, while 4-6 seconds does seem like a lot, it's not too much of a monkey wrench that it's caused me any problems.

OT, but I was looking at your Flickr and noticed you some pics of yours.
We've been to the same place. Sorry for the crummy jpeg compression.

LOL. Yes. Pi put my flickr in his signature for some reason. :)

I think he's planning on selling it as advertising space someday. :)

Thanks! Up in Vancouver here.... not much landscape shooting lately. Do need to get out and shoot though. Snowshoeing is next on my list. :)

I can also confirm that the vagabond mini works fine with the Photogenic PowerLight 2500DR (1000 True Watts Seconds) and PowerLight 1250 (500 True Watts Seconds). I have only tested them separately. Let's face it, if I run both strobes off of it, the recycle times will be horrendous. The 2500DR doesn't flinch during the brown out faze after the strobe fires. I am pleasantly surprised. I will probably only use the 1250 with the mini though. The 6 second full power recycle times of the 2500DR are a little longer than I want to work with.

Then you need a good generator/inverter, like the Honda EU2000i. About $900, 60 lbs, carry a gas can with you to the shoot, etc. Might be worth waiting 7-10 seconds between shots.

sigma pi wrote in post #13647512 (external link)
Thats fine for you, but I dont like my equipment dictating what kind of shot I can or can not do.

7-10 second pauses in shooting are just not for me.
