The game will last 7 Days and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #399."

Game ends Tuesday, January 11th at 10pm US EDT. Will judge sometime on Wednesday !

Here is a copy of the RAW file if interested

Flipped it, levels(just to increase the white point a tiny bit), picked the luminosity of the red channel and inverted, applied curves with the luminosity mask of the red channel.
Merged visible, unsharpmask 9, 50 ,0 . Merged visible and added the red channel luminosity mask and ran a surface blur at 32 radious, 20 threshold, set blend mode to lighten. Masked out the lips and eyes on the blur layer.
Copied eyes onto a new layer to brighten them back up a little bit.
Added a new layer filled with black and a painted in a mask to reveal the subject.

working from the raw - I did a kinda gritty, high contrast style effect

touched up the skin and sharpened the eyes - then used a combo of gritty high contrast effect but toned it down for a portrait. Cloned in the grass over the distractions and cropped to 8x10.

My version:

IMAGE: http://netti.nic.fi/~sumic1/images/201201/ba398_mikkoedit.jpg

DPP: white balance -> cloudy, sharpness 4. Saved 2 versions, -2EV and 0EV

Portrait professional 10: skin smoothing, eye sharpening, lip tune

PSE8: 0EV photo as background, -2EV as foreground. Cut lady from pic with Topaz ReMask3 (just tried it out, cannot use it really). Fixed can from grass.. ;)
Added layer mask below -2EV layer, grouped with -2EV layer. Put circular gradient to layer mask. Cut lady from -2EV layer.
Made copy of backround, cut lady away from the copy. Added gaussian blur to both -2EV and this BG copy layer, radius ~30 I guess.

--- and that's about it.

Wow ... love all the edits! This is a picture of my daughter, so I was glad no one put horns on her

Douglas .. very pretty! Would have been stellar if her hair didn't blend with the background so much, but with her sun glasses on I'm sure that was difficult.

Lore ... Very nice edit! Love the eyes and skin retouching.

08photog ... I get what you were going for! Maybe just a little rough around the edges, but very nice.

Palladium ... Thinking outside the box :D Cool!

Similae ... Looks lovely!

T3 Heavy Shop ... Nice to see a different crop! For some reason she looks more blurry than the original. Might be from uploading.

Thank you all so much for your contributions!! I will be giving this one to Lore. I really like what you did with the skin and eyes.
