Be careful with the CF card cover

I've just had to send my G3 away to be repaired. The small tab that is on the CF cover has broken off. Without this, the camera doesn't work as no power seems to get through.

I'm going away in under 3 weeks, so I'm hoping that it's a simple fix (it seems like it is - just take the cover off and swap it for another) and will be back in my hands again.

Until then, I'm back to using the Powershot S20. At least it's smaller I suppose, and the Microdrive works in it... but... I... want... my.... G3.... back.....

So, just take care when doing anything with the CF slot. As others have suggested, it looks like a bit of a weak spot. I can confirm that it is.

I used to take the CF out of the camera for copying photos to my notebook. Maybe from now I will use the USB cable...

Thanks Jane for the alert; I'll be more mindful now.

I bought a USB reader but haven't opened it yet...maybe I'll take it back now so I don't get tempted.

Jane thanks for the "head up"! Do you remember what you did to break it?

I knocked it when it was open which must have misaligned it, so when I tried to close it, it snapped off.

Much swearing I can tell you....

Got it! I use a USB reader constantly, so I'll make sure I always keep the CF door closed, even without a card.

Just a quick note to say that my G3 has come back all happy from being reparied. The Canon Imaging Service here in the UK have been great and carried out the repair in under 2 weeks (their estimate is 10 - 15 working days). So, needless to say I'm pretty happy.

Now I can play with my new lenses :-)
