Your photos are far superior to mine. These were taken with an outdated little camera. I would love to be able to take photos from a mile away (my 70-200 is my longest lens). I was lucky enough to be friends with the navigator onboard. Once in a lifetime deal.
Thank you, its all in who you know sometimes. The guy next to me in the parking lot was MUCH more into it than I was. I am an opportunist. I go out and see what I can get. It may not be the most efficient way, but for me its almost more about the hunt than the image. He had the scanner listening to the control tower, he knew what runway he would be on, based on wind, etc.... Me, I was driving by, on my way to shoot some birds on the other side of town when I realized why there were cops all around on the freeway. I took a chance and got lucky.
He had his 70-200L and because he knew what to expect he avoided shots like this...
Had I realized that it was gonna be this close, I would have gone with the 55-250, and then had time to change to the long lens while it taxied. I did "practice" on a few other planes that came in just before, but they must have been on the next runway over because they were not nearly as large.
