with the crop sensor you will want the 10-22mm to shoot that wide

I agree. Love this lens.

If the OP ever goes FF, just sell it.

I have never shot with a 16-35 but I have shot with the 17-40 and it wasn't wide enough so I just recently purchased the 10-22 and it is amazing I would recommend the 10-22 unless you are planning on moving to FF in the near future

The OP appears to have BOTH cameras, already ;)

I only have a 7D, right now, but given the choice I think I'd go for the 16-35, simply because I'm interested in the wider, constant aperture and its potential for an astro lens. I love my 10-22 on the 7D, but... :)

This isn't an easy one, really. For indoor shots, the 16-35 coupled with the Mk IV's great high ISO performance, fits the bill(though not as wide). For pano's, the 10-22's much better distortion control would be better. Then, also consider the expensive 82mm filters for the L lens ..i think the 10-22 would be the more versatile choice..IMO.

It's a tough call because the 16-35 would be nice in the event of the full-frame upgrade, but it's not as wide on the 1d as the 10-22 is on the 7D. Outdoors there are times when my 10-22 feels too wide, but indoors I find myself wishing it could go just a bit wider. I'd go with the 10-22 on the 7D right now for your current needs, and trade up if you end up going full frame.

Your FOV is the same on these two, is it not? 10-22 on a crop vs. 16-35 on ff. He has both crop and ff cameras, if I am reading his sig right. I would go with the 16-35 if budget is not a concern.

I think you missed the same thing I did, originally...the 1D MkIV is NOT a FF body...it's a 1.3x crop. So, the 16-35 + MkIV would not be as wide as the 7D + 10-22.

I think I'd still opt for the 16-35, myself; but, if UWA is the goal, then the 7D + 10-22 would have to be the answer there.

I used my 16-35 a lot on my !D2 but use it less now that I also have a full frame body. (My 24-105 is on my 5D2 most of the time.) When I need wider then the 16-35 comes out, but not usually on my 1D4.
