It's probably just in short supply... A lot of camera and camera component factories were damaged or destroyed in the floods in Thailand a few months ago. And that was on top of the manufacturing problems in Japan following the quake and tsunami almost a year ago. Even places that weren't directly effected saw manufacturing slowed or stopped, due to reduced electricity supplies in Japan, and more recently due to lack of certain components that were being made in the Thailand facilities.
Other high tech manufacturing has been effected, too. For example, computer hard drives have been in short supply and gone up on price recently, too... due to shortages. A lot of them were made in Thailand... or some of their components were.
Canon has traditionally had at least an 18 month life cycle for the xxD cameras. (Actually 40D, 50D and 60D have come out on almost exactly 24 month schedule... It was earlier xxD models tended to appear on a tighter 18 mo sched.)
The 60D was announced in September 2010. So I wouldn't expect a replacement until next Fall. But, hey, I could be wrong. Canon can do whatever they want!
