If you shoot canon and are not a CPS member:)

We have been CPS members for a while now. We register all of our equipment with them and try to buy from them when ever we can. They are a lifesaver. I was able to grab a 1DMKIV for 3997.00 ( new ones are $4900.00 ) that had a 200 plus shutter count on it, They replaced a defective 40D for me with a 5D classic for a $600.00 upgrade a few years ago, and I get 3 free camera cleanings every year on my cameras. The best ever just happened today.

2 weeks ago, at a wedding, my wife was photographing a couple at a table at a reception. One of the people blinked and she said let's try that again. While she was looking into her viewfinder, the 24-70 fell straight down to the concrete floor. Results was one very banged up and dead lens. It was about 4-5 yrs old and I thought to myself, great, gonna have to shell out another $1300.00 for another 24-70.

When we got home I shipped it of to CPS to see if it could be repaired. To my surprise, CPS called and advised that the lens was repairable. Seems the lens mount on the 4-5 yr old 24-70 had a lot of wear and was the reason it hit the floor. We use it constantly. They replaced the lens mount, put on a new sleeve (had a nice ding on it:cry:), a new zoom ring, rubber mount and new collars. Then they re calibrated the thing and all the internal dust that got in there over the last 5 yrs was cleaned out. Best of all, with my CPS discount ,,it only cost me $225.00.bw!

So once again, I'm totally blown away by Canon CPS. The lens looks like brand new again and works trick. They go out of their way to take care of canon clients.

If you own a lot of canon equipment, be smart, join Canon Professional Services. Best money you will ever spend for your photography needs. Cant say enough good things about them and the new Jersey repair center.

:lol::lol::lol:

They really are the best out there. I know some guys whine about something that might not go their way, but they have always been great for us. People Whine when things don't go their way, but, they Rarely say what a good job someone does when it does go your way. They have never let us down.

+1 for CPS. They repaired a 7D for me which was out of warranty (new ciecuit board) and didn't charge. They also replaced a grip at no cost.

I have to agree, CPS is well worth the money.

I sent an original 5D in for the mirror repair and they replaced the upper outside shell (for no charge) because it had a ding in it. The camera looked brand new when I got it back.

So if you shoot Canon & aren't a CPS member you are a FOOL right??

Haven't you got to own a significant amount of 'Pro' gear to be a CPS member?

Well, you are a semi pro and making money with your gear, sure, it is a no brainer. FYI, you didn't mention what level is your membership. A Gold member has to pay $100 member fee annually. A Platinum member is $500.

I think CPS has a points system now.

I have the Platinum membership. You get several cleaning coupons, 60% off on repairs, free shipping both ways, and priority turn around. Pays for itself if you need annual maintenance on your gear.

I'm sending in all my stuff for cleaning soon, since it's winter time.

Keep in mind the techs who do the repairs are the same regardless of CPS membership. It's the priority that's different.

That 60% off is huge, especially if you break something. We usually get the gold membership but when we come up for renewal, we will switch it to platinum for 2012-2013.

My lens are coming up on 5-6 yrs in age and i have bodies that i wont be changing from for while. That 24-70 probably dropped due to a worn mount. Definately got me attention.

We are very happy with our gear. My discount on this repair was $107.70. If i had plantinum, it would have been $215.20. If you have to have a camera repaired, the platinum would probably cover it just on the repair alone. If you have a lot of gear, platinum is the way to go.

CPS Canada sounds good... but it's not quite as good...

I have had a few good experiences with CPS Canada but personally I think that Canon took what was an excellent program aimed at those that made their living in this field and turned it into a cash cow. It used to be free and the entrance criteria was more stringent. There are differences in the program depending on which country you reside in.

I was not keen on the costs associated with this having been a member for several years at the no cost level. I pay the top level here in Canada and view it as a quasi insurance plan and the cost is just another one of those doing business costs that you have. However, it is a decision that each person should make and if they feel that they can live with the longer return times on repairs then I certainly wouldn't call them a fool.

I've used it a few times and they have always met the timelines. Anyone doing this as a living should most definitely belong. While I always gave backup gear it's nice to get your repairs back in a short time frame.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Completely agreed about the platinum. It pays for itself just in cleaning vouchers. You add to that the gift bag you get, the straps, etc, which you can sell off if you choose to, it really become quite a bargain. It's already paid off for me, since I sent in a few things for repair/calibration/etc and am ready to send in everything for cleaning.

I have to remember to renew my gold membership. I looked at the platinum membership and it says "Platinum Member Gift" for signing up. What is that gift?
