Not to get too far off track, but, coming from a 135, would a 70-200 be better next-step than the 100-400? I love my 100-400 but it's not on par with a 135L. The 70-200 is, and it holds up well with a 1.4x TC.

Exactly Frank. Think the next lens will be the 100-400. Due to the location of the feeders to where I shoot from, I can't go much below f/5.6 anyway. Much lower and nothing would be in focus.

As mentioned below, the images were exported way too low resolution. They look much better at a normal sized and resolutions. But because of the noise, I need to learn selective sharpening technique to keep the BG from being grained when sharpening takes place.

if you want a wildlife and birding lens a 70-200 IS II is a great lens if you put a TC on it but it wont be too much netter than the 100-400L
and it will be much more expensive.
