Your typical video image is something less than 800x600 resolution. Even going to high-def, you're still looking at much less than a 2 MP image. Jon

They're covering the easy part of the frame, after all. Jon

The pixel density in XL is higher than that in digital cameras. Which one requires lenses with higher resolution? Is the pixel density more becuase you mulitply it by 3 since the camera has 3chips? If I'm reading B&H's listing correctly, and my math is anything like correct, a sensor site on the XL1s is 72 sq. microns. The 20D has 3504x2336 pixels in 22500x15000 microns, or 41.23 sq. microns/sensor site. Looks like the 20D requires a higher lens resolution to me. Jon
