Very doubtful, at least without a lot of DIY knowhow to somehow get them together. I suspect the quality would be sub-par for a still camera too.

Also the lenses from the XL1 probably won't cover even an APS-C sensor, even if there's enough back focus on the lens to let it clear the EOS body at infinity.

No, EF lenses can be used on the XL1 with an adapter, but not vice versa (XL1 has about 5x crop factor)

The 1200 shown in this link is the standard EF 1200/5.6 L lens.
You can use it on your 10D without any problems (other than coming up with about $ 80,000)

Best regards,
Andy

The stock XL1 lens isn't all that good either. The one thing I hate about it is the infinity focus ring, the kind that you can just keep turning and turning.
A lot of people go with the manual Canon lens for the XL1.

yeah, those are cheaper too

I'd want to have 70-200 mounted on XL1 to film some hawks...

490-1400 f/2.8 is just about right for those birdies.

They don't have to be that good. Your typical video image is something less than 800x600 resolution. Even going to high-def, you're still looking at much less than a 2 MP image.

They have to be better, since the sensor is smaller and the photosites are closer together.

No, with the lower resolution, and smaller sensor they don't have to be as good as an equivalent lens covering a larger area. They're covering the easy part of the frame, after all.

There's no "easy" part of the frame anymore because the lens is designed for the sensor specifically.

The pixel density in XL is higher than that in digital cameras. Which one requires lenses with higher resolution?

It's impossible to do the opposite.

Is the pixel density more becuase you mulitply it by 3 since the camera has 3chips?
I'll snap a pic of the XL1's sensor and the lens face today if I go by the studio.

If I'm reading B&H's listing correctly, and my math is anything like correct, a sensor site on the XL1s is 72 sq. microns. The 20D has 3504x2336 pixels in 22500x15000 microns, or 41.23 sq. microns/sensor site. Looks like the 20D requires a higher lens resolution to me.
