Hello all,im looking into getting a shutter release thingy. How exactly do you use it in this respect.EX. focus on subject press shutter release (wired/wireless)then it takes the pic?It cant be that hard.I mean once you get the subject focused then step away from the camera does it hold the focus for a certain time then snaps it?

p.s.They seem pretty cheap on the web.Anyone recommend either one(wired/wireless)?Maybe $45-$50 max amount.
Thanks

I have one from Phottix (http://www.phottix.com/en/wireless-remotes.html?p=1 (external link)). I got it on ebay for around $50. Haven't had any issues with it so far.

I use manual exposure settings on the copy machine

If you're looking at cable releases, look on www.dealextreme.com (external link). You can find them for $4-5, specific for each camera. HK made, but I've found them very reliable.

The wireless one I use is the OEM Canon, from B&H.

I have both the wired Canon RS60-E3 and the wireless RC-6. I purchased both when I had my XSi and they both also work with my 60D. The wired one has a 2 stage button, so a light press will refocus like the regular shutter button. The wireless one has a sin.gle stage button that does both refocus and shoot with the same press on a 2 or 10 second delay. I use the wired for macro and tripod shots, and the wireless if I need to be in the shot.

Interval timer FTW! Acts as a cable release, too. Priced right at $17.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

It depends on how your camera is set up. If you shoot the 'normal' way, with AF on the shutter button, most releases will AF on a half-press, just like using the camera; and then activate the shutter with a full press of the button.

If you shoot with back button AF, then you'd have to do your focusing at the camera and just use the button on the remote to activate the shutter once your shot is set up.

Once set, the focus will remain until you re-initiate another focus action (either by half pressing the shutter button again, or hitting the focus button on back of the camera).
