I tried to see if any one in here was posting about the moon last night.

I've never done long exposure shots, nor shots of the sky or moon, but a call from my sister telling me to go outside and look up, I definitely had to try to get a shot of it.

I put my 'best' shot up as my Day 8, in my 365 project (ya even tho it was taken last night) ;). Along with the interesting facts I found out about why those rings were there.

Well done for looking up, trying something new and taking the time to find out what you were seeing.
And the result is good too.

I saw the same thing for the first time about a month ago. I had no idea what was the cause but I had to grab a shot!

Yes, ice crystals... and it's generally a precursor to a weather change / rain...

wow, should I see this again... definitely better captured by having a wider angle. Also browsing through this section, I'm definitely inspired to head out more at night.

Is this full frame with ultra wide angle lens? what lens did you use?

On my T1i with 15-85 lens @ 15 mm I can only get this much field of view.
(equiv to a 24mm on FF body)

Yes I used a 5Dmk2 with 17-40 f/4L. Wonderful lens on a ff body. For that shot the camera was just about facing straight up in the air.

I remember seeing this a few times over the course of the last few years. It really is an amazing phenomenon when seen on a clear sky. Wish I had my 500d at the time to take a shot!
