That was a much bigger fish than I thought would be typical of a Great Blue heron meal. Explains where all the stocked fish are going in our neighborhood ponds...

When they swallow a fish that big, they actually have to stand up straight, don't they? Nice sequence.

Thanks for the comments. I was initially hoping to just get a nice isolated shot of the heron (sans fish), and was annoyed the tall grasses/etc were between it and me. So I tried snapping a few shots of some wrens twittering about, but they wouldn't stay still long enough near me to get a good shot. That's when I noticed all of a sudden the heron was playing with the fish that it must have just snagged.

The heron stood up straight when the fish was already well down his gullet, and never tilted his head way back like you might expect.
