I noticed price differences for a Canon 7D.
The quoted asking prices for sale of a 7D on this forum are generally higher than the one on Craighlist for the area of Los Angeles and Orange County in SoCal.
Brand new and never been used with Canon USA waranty for $1250 and used for not a year for as low as $1000 including all that came with the box and just 3000 actuations.
I have seen also a 5DMKII going for $1700.
I have red several warnings about Craighlist, but when a seller offer an item including the original information, you can meet that person and are allowed to try the for sale stuff, I think that might not be a problem.

If you can find a good deal on CL, I would say go for it. Just beware of stolen items and scams. If a seller has the original box, charger and paperwork, it is most likely a legitimate deal.

Craigslist is fine if you take precautions; meet in public place( bank, busy coffee shop, police station), go armed, wear body armor, bring backup, don't invite sellers/buyers to your home, etc, etc. The advantage of CL is you get to inspect and try out what you're buying, the down side is it could be stolen and you don't have whatever protection Paypal offers.

You should buy where you're comfortable in buying, it's your money.

And be aware that Canon warranties aren't transferrable.

Keep looking in the for sale boards here....I see 2-3 7D's a week at $1100+-....two weeks ago one was 3 days old for $1100. You have to check a couple times a day as those deals are picked up very quickly.

Also, check out the market watch forum, or other deal tracking sites. Two times In the past month, ebay has had the 7d for $1100 sold by Focus Camera. That's new from a authorized dealer with warranty.

I would rather buy a new one for $1100 off ebay than a used one on CL. There are currently a few on ebay for $1100 brand new, for example: …iewItem&item=310368443133 (external link)

For the 7D, this is the point of the game where prices are being affected by people's anticipation of new product announcements. If you like the product at the sale price, just buy it but remember to use normal precautions.

And be aware that Canon warranties aren't transferrable.

Canon warranty is not transferable. However, if the original owner has not registered it and you have the original receipt, there is a loophole that you can claim it as a gift.
