Jan 09, 2012 08:17 | #1 Canon today unveiled the PowerShot G1 X ($799), a camera that offers both the convenience and portability of a compact camera and the promise of the kind of uncompromising image quality one expects from a DSLR, thanks to a new, near-APS-sized sensor. Did they succeed? Let's take a first look at this new camera and see if it's a game-changer. http://www.adorama.com …Look-Canon-PowerShot-G1-X The big news is its big 14-megapixel sensor, which is a new format that's just a tad smaller than the APS-C sensors found on Canon starter and intermediate-level DSLRs, and somewhat larger than a Four Thirds sensor. a6000, 5Dii, 40D, 350D, 430EX, 70-200 f/4L IS, 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS, EF-S 18-55 IS, nifty fifty, Sigma APO 70-300mm f4-5.6 DG Macro, Tokina 11-16, Sony E PZ 16-50mm

msowsun "approx 8mm" ![]() More info | http://www.dpreview.com/previews/canong1x/page4.asp The G1 X offers a pop-up flash that's manually-operated using switch behind it on the top plate, rather than the front-plate example on previous G series cameras. The camera's Smart Auto mode includes a multi-area white balance feature that attempts to correct both for ambient light and the effect of the built-in flash.

Also without a flash underwater sTTL will not be able to work with a strobe. 500D, Speedlite 430EX II, Lens : 15-85mm; 50mm F1.8 II; 100mm F2.8L IS Macro; 70-200mm F4L; Samyang 8mm F3.5

That article about the mirrorless is interesting. Would be cool to have EF compatibility, but that would totally kill the compactness of it. 7D l Canon 70-200 f/4L IS l Canon 85mm f/1.8 l ∑ 17-50 f/2.8 l Canon 50mm f/1.8 II l S95

To me, the whole selling point of the m4/3 offerings or the Nikon 1 is the smaller form factor body along with smaller lenses. That's why I don't like the Sony Nex. Smaller body, but standard sized lenses.

But it has an APS-C sensor and a 28-115mm zoom starting at f2.8. People pay $600+ for a DSLR with a kit zoom, this is the same thing but the lens retracts into the body. THat's worth some extra cash, IMO. Taylor
