You need both, I have the S100, great little pocket camera. I think this is the next step up. I plan on getting one to use for more serious stuff!!!!

Just got me a G7 X on order:)

That's a great link. Thanks. Bookmark.

For fun I did a size comparison of the 1dX and the S-95.

Thank you. bw!

The images were all from DPReview (hopefully with permission), but it does help us by scaling the photos and providing all the measurements side-by-side.

Thanks for sharing this tool.

How big would my pockets need to be to hold this? I'm torn between g1x and s100.

Of course, it's not just a matter of size and weight. Image quality can be quite different between the two. Is the S100's IQ good enough for your use?

There is enough information to suggest that the G1x will have IQ very similar to that of the 600D.

As can be seen in the DPReview comparison below, ISO800 is pretty good on the S100, but larger sensors clearly have an advantage -- ISO1600 on the Nikon V1 is still cleaner and has more detail than ISO800 on the S100. The 600D (and presumably the G1x) can easily go up another notch (to ISO3200) and still provide better IQ:

I believe you would get a better idea of a camera's capabilities by downloading and processing their RAW files. I have the G11 and NX100 cameras, and do not get the "best" from either, unless I process their RAW files. The NX100 JPEG engine is not very good overall, and I really have to process it's files from RAW to show it's best capabilities.

Here's a screen capture from DPR comparing the RAW files for the S100, G12, T3i, and NX100. They all show noise, etc, but I downloaded the RAW file for my NX100. I processed it with the Auto feature with Photoshop Elements 10, used a Weak noise setting in Noiseware Pro, and saved as TIFF. I cropped a portion in the lower right of the test image to show the result. While I think the G1 X is very interesting, it costs $800 (for now). I paid $300 for the NX100, and it provides me with an APS-C sensor camera at my price point. If I process from RAW, then I can get the results I prefer. My G11 can give me the small carry camera if I want that experience. I believe it's as good or better than a G12 (for me), and I don't find it a problem to bring along in my coat pocket or belt pouch.

Wow, those are pretty impressive. I was about the pull the trigger on a Pen EP3, but I'm going to wait on reviews of the G1X now and then decide. Plus, I like the idea of being able to use my Canon 430 flash rather than having to buy another flash for the EP3.

I decided to take a chance and preorder one at my camera shop I'll trade my S95 for it. Then I'll probably sell both my 5DmkII and 7D for the 1Dx.

Ridiculous! Seems like canon stepped up their game. Makes you wonder how good the 1dx is really gonna be. ISO 100k might not be that bad.

Anyone seen this? I know, it is a rumor site... But anyway. I ordered one from amazon.com just in case. I figure I can always cancel if I change my mind.

But I have a feeling this camera is one that I will buy regardless. May as well get it now, I suppose.

While those high ISO shots are impressive, lets see how they look under a real test in low light.

Yes Bobs, I agree with you!
The real High Iso test should be in low light.
