Do you do any photo editing on any of the current tablets that are out there? DO they even have the processing power?

Either the ipad or some of the android ones?

I am in a bit of a dilemma, my older laptop is bit slow when editing photos in lightroom. Is even LR available for tablets?

If it wasn't for the photo editing stuff I would rather spend $400 for a nice tablet ( I prefer android ones) than $600 on a laptop that is a burden to carry etc, but performs well.

How about doing HDR photos with a tablet?

It seems that the ASUS Transformer prime TF 201 of the Toshiba Thrive are the top tablets out there right now. How is the picture processing on these? Can they replace a solid laptop?

I don't know that any of the tablets can perform any color management.
When I can calibrate a display on one, and can run Lightroom, then I would be interested...

Even after calibration, your environment would be constantly changing.
Hmm, perhaps a new type of calibration is called for.
Perform the calibration in a controlled environment(static) and have some kind of metering and adjustment performed in the new environment(dynamic)?
I don't even know if this is possible.
But hey, it's MY idea before someone patents it!
*8^)

Can the tablets actually run an app like Lightroom?

Not that I know of.
Lightroom is PC/MAC Intel only, I would guess.
I don't know if there is a current tablet, other than a tablet PC, that is powerful enough to warrant a port.
One can only dream of such...

Yes, Ive seen those, shrug, guess that's okay for snapshots.
I guess I am simply wanting too much, as I am spoiled by CS5 right now.

One of the Intel i5 tablet PC's is definitely powerful enough for Lightroom. But expensive - best bang for buck is a desktop PC.

I recently got an android tablet (motorola Xoom) and was pretty excited to try Photoshop Touch; an app specifically designed for photo editing on tablets :

But then I read the (bad) reviews and decided against it. The biggest complaint (and a deal-killer for me) was that images were limited to 1600x1600p. Otherwise, it looked like a pretty good app.

So seems like the tablets will not be able to do any real powerhouse editing, hdr, etc what we can expect from a decent laptop or PC?

A good laptop or PC -- if you have a 64-bit OS and plenty of memory and hard drive space then they could take whatever you throw at them. Of course if you go "budget" you will struggle. So, plan your budget to do the jobs you want.

But full-featured laptops and even your basic "box" PC could handle apps like Photoshop and Lightroom for most editing needs. Things like HDR will benefit from the memory and hard drive "boosts".

I just bought a stylus for my iPad and cant live without it now. And it made me wonder the same question. Someday the iPad may be useful to photoshop!

As of right now, there is nothing that compares to a PC/Mac.
