That said, I won't be buying a 5D3 so there may well be something in it. I just wouldn't stake my house on Canon getting murdered by Nikon in terms of sales.

Offers too few improvements and too many downgrades from a 1Ds3. Made more sense to buy a cheap used 5D2 for video and as a smaller, lighter backup.

5d3 wont sell well mate. too expensive and not as good s the chesper d800

Sales don't matter to anyone except Canon and Nikon.

I care about how good the camera is, not how many each company manages to sell.

your dillusional if thats what you think. if sales are poor, and at worse case, all other canon products sell badly then bye bye canon just like kodac.

wishful thinking if you think sales only matter to canon/nikon

(a) It's Kodak, not kodac.
(b) Canon isn't even remotely close to going bankrupt. Kodak has been dead for many years and just hadn't formally announced it. :p

Poor sales? I can't even find a 5DIII body online anywhere.

People forget that there are two SKUs for the Mark III, body and kit, vs only one for the D800. That is one reason for the D800 being a few slots up from the 5DIII on Amazon.

I've heard the Chesper D800 is even BETTER than the Nikon one!

FYI: B&H Photo has no idea when they'll be getting any shipments of the Chesper D800. Chesper is really botching their product release; their initial shipments have been pathetically feeble (quantity) and they aren't doing a good job of communicating with their dealer network. It could be weeks, even months, before Chesper catches up with the demand. The Canon 5D III might be more expensive than the cheaper Chesper, but until Chesper starts shipping in meaningful quantities, Canon is going to come out very well...at least for now.

Everyone should go buy a 5D3 and cancel their D800, it's not worth the wait! Do it!

I have never used any Chesper products. I will have to check out their website.

This is one funny thread.

If anyone is looking for a D800 let me know. I just had a dealer contact me saying he has a couple.

Edit: All gone.

I dunno. Chesper really only makes pro gear. I don't think Best Buy carries much made by them. I've shot Nikon for a few years now, and have eyed Chesper, but its tough to get your hands on their products. Tiny supply and HUGE demand.
