Awesome pics Todd. Imagine how much better they would have been if you had a D800!

Not any better, I think. Which is why I went with the 5D3 actually. I mean the resolution increase is always good, but I was after specific things like dynamic range over ISO 3200, low light focusing, high ISO performance, etc.. All of those things are better on the 5D3 or at least on par with the D800.
Big concerns for me, are low-light focusing, Live View in the dark, long exposure artifacts (white spots) etc.. those issues coupled with me having to buy Nikon glass to compliment things, meant that there just wasn't any tangible advantages of going with the D800.
I'm pretty sure I did my due-dilligence and made the right decision. I still think the 1DX will be the ultimate body for what I do, but in the end, I was able to get 90% of what the 1DX can do, for half the price. This allowed me to add the 17 TS-E lens to my repertoire which in the end, I think is a much more lethal weapon than just a slight increase in ISO performance that the 1Dx would possibly yield.

Has anyone else considered the poor battery life of the d800?
I hear the 5d3 is worse than the 5d2, but still not as bad as the d800?
Yes, I've noticed that the battery life is a bit less on the 5D3, but then I seem to be using LV even more and with new things like the built-in level (so incredible in conjunction with TS-E lenses!) and now I've got an Eye-Fi card allowing me to view instant previews on my iPad while in the field. These things are probably contributing to my increased battery use. That said, I get my grip tomorrow and I've got 6 LP-E6 batteries, so it's not that big of a concern for me.
