^An ironically irrelevant analogy.

Eh, I don't mind the review at all. I hope it lights a fire under Canon's butt.

And I don't regret my 5D3 purchase at all. I love the new AF system and a whole host of other features that it has. I think the D800 sensor is objectively better, but the real world results probably aren't as dramatic as that review makes it sound.

i liked the feel of the 5D3 a lot better than the D800.

The lab results obviously don't go into the subjective aspects of both cameras.

Isn't that really old news? I mean this info has been out for awhile now, right?

I tend to see things with a bit different pair of glasses on... I see that the D800 gets stomped in dynamic range as the ISO goes up. Don't hear anyone trumpeting on and on about that and how it makes the D800 not nearly as viable a solution for someone who shoots at in low light a lot.

Granted, that's just a niche section of the product, but it's just as important as low ISO dynamic range. It's just as important as megapixel count.

See where I'm going with this? The landscapers want to make the D800 seem as if it's the only camera in town. Of course it's not.

I've said this elsewhere, but I'll gladly pit my 5D3 in just about any case, against the D800. 8-)

and that's why you buy the tool that means your needs best......or just buy both. :p

My feeling, Todd, is that you're perception doesn't match reality. I can think of one landscaper that this might have given that impression (whose POTN name rhymes with bladdowshade), are there others? I still love my 5D II for landscapes. ;) Why the call for a duel?

That's my point right there. These conversations always have to turn to making a point that their own camera can do something that the other cannot.

It's really pointless and comes down to buying the right tool for your own needs. My needs are for cleaner files with better dynamic range above 2500. Canon does that better than Nikon in this iteration. So, I bought the best tool for my needs.

You may need megapixels, so the D800 is the tool for that.

Other than small things, both cameras are very equal and there isn't a poor choice available, just comes down to what you want/need.
