Thought I'd post a few photos taken just a week after receiving my first DSLR in October 2010. These were shot with either my kit lens, or an old pawn shop Sigma 70-200 manual lens.

I live 30 minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park, so I am usually in the park at least once a month for camping, hiking, fishing, etc..

The weather wasn't too great, so the scenes were a little dark, and I didn't learn about RAW shooting yet, so these were all in .jpg.

Beautiful place to live isn't it? :) Great shots. Looks like the last three had some dirt/spots on the lens. Not hard to fix in post but something to watch for when shooting outdoors. I still forget from time to time but I've tried to get in the habit of walking around to the front of the tripod and checking the lens as the last thing I do before clicking the shutter. The trick I've used to help with that is to make myself use the remote shutter.

Hope this helps. Don't forget to carry bear spray! :)

Peace!

I believe those are dust spots on the sensor, not the lens. If they were on the front of the lens, they wouldn't show up.

I particularly like the first two, what gorgeous light!

Agree with Todd on both accounts.

First two are great shots! I'm up in RMNP at least 2 times a month, if not more (sometimes as a Volunteer Ranger @ Bear Lake Ranger Station). A lot of snowshoeing & photography lately. :D

Thanks everyone. Yea, they were dust spots on the sensor. As I said, this was my first DSLR and some of the first photos I took with it. I never had to deal with sensor dust with my point and shoots :). These photos were also before I learned much about Photoshop, so I didn't know how to get rid of them.

I do now, and I guess I should go back and spot heal them, I just haven't thought about it since the photos are a year and a half old.

How do you go about volunteering? I'd really be interested in that as I am in the park regularly, the last two months has seen me in the park every weekend but this past weekend.

Snowshoeing has been great in the higher elevations!

Yeah, I made the handle when I signed up over at Pirate 4x4 and it stuck. I was building up a '78 CJ7 at the time. I never have finished it though, might just get on it and finish it this winter.

Sent you a PM. :)

Yeah, the Bear Lake area is pretty set with snow. Bierstadt Lake, once you get up to the top of the ridge is good with snow; the trail up is best done with "Stabilizers" or "Yak-Trax" at this point. :D

Very good series, I like all of them, especially the one with the fallen tree in the FG
