Hello,
I understand how to color correct my images in Camera RAW in CS4, and Im happy with my results. However I dont know how to apply this to multiple shots of my photo session.

Also once the images are in CS4, I sometimes color correct using the CMKY on skin tones. After the CMKY adjustment, is there any way to use that adjustment to the next picture in the set?

Thanks

For a batch of pics in Camera Raw, the quick "intuative" way is to select the images in Bridge, then open them all in Camera Raw -- double-click one or right-click one and choose accordingly. Then Camera Raw opens with all the files in the strip to the left.

From there you can work on one image. If all images are selected the edits should be applied to them all simultaneously. But when you finish the "global" work on one image, you can click Select All and Synchronize to get them all in order.

You can also work on one image in Camera Raw, click Done, select a batch in Bridge, right-click, go to Develop Settings and choose Previous Conversion.

In Photoshop, there are different ways to approach things. You can create an action to do what you want then run it on the batch using something like Image Processor from Bridge (or similar in the Photoshop editor). In the editor, if you have multiple files open simultaneously in a way that they are all being viewed (cascaded or tiled) you can drag and drop a layer from an "active" image to another visible image.

There are ways to save a layer and then open/apply it to other images, but I don't recall the details!

If all this is gibberish to you, I'd suggest you settle down to do some reading and tutorials on Photoshop and Camera Raw! Lynda.com is a great starting place, as is KelbyTraining.com, and there are excellent books out there as well!

In PS: Use adjustment layers and you can drag and drop them on the next image.

You can also save your curve as a preset with a custom name. When you create a new adjustment layer, load your new preset...

In camera raw, you can save and apply settings.

This says CS4, but it didn't change.

In PS, you can just copy the adjusting layer.

Sam, I'm not finding the option to Copy the adjustment layer -- I have CS3 but no "Copy" shows up when either I right-click on the layer, look in the Edit Menu or Layer menu, or, when I do a Ctl-C with the adjustment layer and then a Ctl-V with the second image.

Like René and I said above, you can drag-and-drop an adjustment layer onto a second image.

What I'm also not sure about is how to save an adjustment layer as a "preset" that can be loaded into another image -- are there specific steps for doing that? An adjustment layer is not an image so I don't know how one would approach that...?

It is drag and drop to copy. I should have said that.

I think the link I posted was about camera raw presets. There, you can save all of your settings from one image, then apply them to any number of others, in raw. You can't move that preset into PS.

It's been a while since I've used CS3, but Image/Adjustments and click on Curves. There should be a little drop down arrow just to the right of the Presets that will let you save. Not all the adjustment layers will have this, but I know Curves, Levels, and Black & White do.

Ah, super, you can save the preset, at least in a good number of the adjustment layer dialogs, but not all. So it's not so much a "quick" way but very doable. Alternatively you can drag and drop.

For me its just an ease thing. I use a couple of "weird" curves that are a pita to set up. They're mainly used for retouching and are used to check progress and get deleted later. Also, have a couple of Hue/Sat presets for whitening teeth and eyes that give me a good start. Of course, presets in ACR are a breeze to use as well.

The tough thing with all this is that as far as I know you can't "batch" things in PS in the editor with the layer approach without an action. So, if you have a group of images, create an adjustment layer on one and then want to "copy" it to the rest of the batch, you can't do that to the batch as far as I know without creating an action.

I do love actions, and really it's not much trouble to do, you just have to go through the process then run the rest of the batch through the action. So, no big deal, you just have to have the plan in advance!
