With it being my 4th year in my highschool yearbook staff, i've never seen a senior submit a photo like this one. Of course, these photos go in the back of the yearbook along with other senior ads, but I'm not sure what my school would have said about that. And let me tell you my highschool is a has a very strict policy on dress code. I do beleive, though, that the comments made by the other students were innapropriate and uncalled for.

I don't think kids are mature enough to make the decision. That's why they have parents. If there is a problem, it's with her parents.

You don't need maturity to go to war or help decide who our country's leaders should be; you only need to be at least 18 years of age (which, if I read correctly, she is). I fail to see how something as trivial as a yearbook photo would require something "more".

Interesting thing is, it was student editors that rejected the shot.

The student editors made the decision. They're quoted statement was, "This is an award-winning yearbook...The picture was 'unprofessional.'"

That's an editorial decision, it's their job as editors to create a yearbook that would continue to win awards in the same way the football team selects players to continue to win championships. The editors have no obligation to support someone else's freedom of expression any more than the football team is required to allow everyone to play.

On the other hand, are they perhaps losing site of the true purpose of a yearbook in the pursuit of such awards?

We are talking about a high school yearbook and not Time magazine.

We could say the same thing about the football team. Even more, the "true purpose" of a yearbook has never been about giving each individual student a platform for his or her own personal "freedom of expression." I was a yearbook editor myself--it's always been a matter of the editor(s) vision. Learning to fill publication production roles is the "true purpose" of the yearbook.

Awesome photo of a beautiful girl. It's not her fault the committee is a bunch of uptight and jealous conservative d-bags.

Ah, that explains a lot. Two jealous little girls there, did you see the smirk appear on one of the girls faces when the host described the girl in the photo as an "Aspiring model" ?

Actually the whole thing is just a vanity piece.

I don't think they're so bad, but then again if she was my daughter I'd have burned the printing office that made those books down...

Normally I would not reply on post like this but, the yearbook editors making a call of we won't post it for a senior pic BUT if you want to pay $$$$ for ad with it then hey it's a great photo. I feel if it was NOT appropriate for the senior photo then HOW did it become FINE if your willing to pay to post it. Also if they had just posted the photo and not throwed such a stink then the SCHOOL or the GIRL WOULD NOT have gotten the 15 minutes of FAME they have now got.

They could have refused without making rude remarks about her and her family.
