So is there no weight to the higher Write Speed argument then? Just as long as specifications are met, 10MB/S vs. 90MB/S is going to give same quality and performance? Thanks so far.

For video, yes, same performance.

Card speed has no effect on quality. It either works (cards is fast enough) or it doesn't work (card is too slow and the camera just stops recording video).

For transferring your files to your computer the faster cards will transfer faster (if using a separate card reader... in camera using USB, not so much), but this is READ speed, not WRITE speed (which the class number refers to).

It is possible (but not likely in a T3i) that you could get marginally more still images in a single burst before the buffer fills with a faster card. But, as I said, that is an issue for higher performing cameras; it is unlikely to have any noticeable effect with your Rebel.

Kind of annoyed, is the card defective?
I bought a SanDisk Ultra 30MB/s Class-10 16GB, in a matter of seconds recording in 1080, the camera automatically stops! If I record at 720, it seems to be okay but I'm not super comfortable with that setting either. So what gives? Is it the card or the camera? Please help, thanks.

While it is possible there is an issue with your camera, what you describe is what happens when you use a card that is too slow.

I don't understand why it works at 720p though, since both 1080 and 720 record at the same 330 MB/min (5.5 MB/sec) bit rate.

If you can try a different card, do so and see what happens. Otherwise, my first guess is you have a defective or counterfeit card.

I wouldn't expect it to be counterfeit, then (although even big retailers can be scammed). It might be a defective card. I'd suggest a second card, at least class 10, from a different store and a different manufacturer (e.g. Lexar). If both cards have the issue, it is then time to look at a possible camera problem. If the Lexar (or whatever) works and your Sandisk still does not, contact Sandisk for warranty service.

It seems to potentially be an intermittent issue? I just got engaged and thankfully it didn't cut out during my surprise proposal! It almost seems as if the camera needs to warm up for a minute or so before recording, seems opposite to what I have been reading since heat is a problem.

hello everyone. i have a Canon T3i, and i have a BLACKS expert selects card (32GB), http://www.blacks.ca …s/product.jsp?prdId=32618 (external link)and i am in the market for new cards. would anyone recommend the Lexar Professional class 10's over the Sandisk Ultra/Extremes ?

I find the 32GB was ok ?? I guess. its really been my first foray into dslrs, and really happy with the the camera. There were times however, though i wished the picstures would be captured a bit faster. would a faster memory card do that for me? or would i need to upgrade the lense or camera body to do that? im hoping a faster card would do the trick..

I look forward to reading your replies... thank you in advance.

I have a sandisk class 10 and a Sandisk Ultra and honestly the speed is not drastically different. The camera is limited and the cache fills up quickly no matter what memory card I have in my T3i. I would save the money and get the regular class 10's. You aren't going to get a lot of speed no matter what you have in your camera.

With a T3i, I have an 8GB 30MB/s Sandisk Extreme "HD Video" and a normal Sandisk Extreme 32GB 45MB/s. The 30MB/s gives up on video.

I have no problems with the 45MB/s card.

If the card is performing to what the manufacturer claims, that makes no sense.

The video bit stream from your T3i is only 5.5MB/s. A class 6 card will do.

I am looking at buying a Canon T3i and different memory cards. I'll probably go with the Transcend brand.

I am planning on shooting photos & HD videos. I am reading mainly about video on here, is there a difference that I should be aware of? photo and/or video wise with using any of these cards?

should I go with....
Transcend 64 GB High Speed Class 10 UHS 80/40 MB/s ?

Transcend 64GB High Speed 10 UHS?
http://www.amazon.com …00EH5UQDA/ref=pd_sim_pc_2 (external link)

Transcend 64GB Class 10 SDXC ?
http://www.amazon.com …&keywords=Transcend+64+GB (external link)

Thanks all the best.

Just so people know, Sandisk replaced my card and that was indeed the problem. My videos now stop when recording 4GB or about 12min of 1080HD Video recording as they should. Bit of a hassle, I sent them in a C-10 card, they sent me back a C-4 card and said that is what they received from me, which was completely incorrect. They finally made it right and after not having the card for about six weeks, finally received the correct replacement. Thanks for the help!

Well what the heck! It's doing it again! I think I'll be selling this card and buying a faster one or from a different company completely. This is very frustrating!
