argh, so this GX1 -vs- emp2 decision is killing me... I'm actually considering a OMD again with my GF3 as my sailing camera for summer (I just want something that fits in the pelican 1050 box with the 17mm). The only reason I'm not running back to the OMD again is because I think the X100s is my personal solution. I LOVED the X100 in every way (after the firmware update) except AF. So I'm hoping that's my ticket. If not I might just do the OMD again...

the other thing I'm realizing here after talking to a friend who's toying with the idea of an RX1... For that money, you can get a X100s as your 35mm lens body, then you can get EITHER MFT w/7-14mm or a sony with their 10-18mm... Or really even an XE1 with the 10-2?... The only point here is the RX1, as good as it might be, is priced too high to make sense with the other options available IMHO.

I agree. The RX1 is insanely priced.

Welcome aboard, h0rde! Let us know what you think when you get it. The 17mm f/1.8 is a very fun lens to use if you like the 35mm equivalent focal length. Some might complain about wide open sharpness compared to the 20mm f/1.7, but the usability factor more than makes up for it for me.

After playing around with it for just a few minutes, it's a pretty impressive little camera. The AF system is really snappy. It's very strange to be able to touch the big LCD anywhere, and the camera instantly focuses and snaps the image. It's going to take some tweaking and getting used to, but I'm pretty happy. Mine's already got the 1.5 firmware loaded, which is nice.

^^ check out dpreview article (external link) for initial settings on the om-d. Helped me a lot when I got mine.
And 12-35 is great, a bit big, but nothing compare to the brick.

So really strange story...I had a youtube video go viral yesterday and am now making Amazon Affiliate money hand over fist. Looks like I'll be finally getting a 3rd lens, but I'm curious if anyone has experience with the Oly 75 1.8? My favorite lens on my Canon was the 135 f2, so I'm looking for something, anything, that can get me close to those results.

I don't own it, but everything I've seen points to it being amazing.

Has anyone tried a Canon flash with the E-M5? I've read you can put tape over all but the middle contacts on the hot shoe and get a 430 to work, but I have yet to try it..

I am not sure if you already found an answer to this or not. I have two flashes - Canon 430EX II and YONGNUO 468 made for Canon which I use with my Canon 60D. I have YN RF-603C triggers that I attach to my 60D and they would trigger either one (or both) flashes. Flashes won't work directly in OM-D hotshoe because the pinout is slightly different. However, I modified one of the YN RF-603C triggers according to these instructions (external link) and I can now use this trigger on my OM-D to trigger these flashes the same way I trigger them from Canon. Probably the same pin can be taped on the flash itself to make it work directly.

Interesting info for this camera - here's how the sensor stacks up against Canon's 7D and Nikon's D300S (hint: favorably).

interesting but wrong since the OMD smokes the 7D on ISO... I'd shoot my OMD at 6400 if I had to, 3200 on the 7D was terrible in comparison.

Is there a way to tell the camera (in aperture priority) to allow slower shutter speeds? I feel like it bumps the ISO higher than it should be in order to keep shutter speeds at 1/60 sec with the 17mm attached.
