Ok here is the story, a buddy of mine is coming home form Afghanistan and we are completely rebuilding his very ugly and beat up truck. Sponsors, friends, family, everyone is donating something to the cause, everything from new lights, new interior to new wheels and tires. We are donating our time and materials to make the truck pretty again.
We had this lucky Soldier’s girlfriend come over and have some pictures shot of her “working” on the tuck. Lighting was poor, one orange streetlight which gave a neat glow, 7D camera flash, and a big LED area lighting system to help fill in the darkness.
I’m using the kit lens 28-135mm, and some of my shots were crisp, some weren’t. I took about 300 photos and liked 20 or so of them. Sometimes the lens seemed to focus sometimes it didn’t. Not sure if this is due to low lighting, cheaper lens, or constant movement.
Any ideas, suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
I do have a 580 speed light on order; next will be an L lens in February.

Well the lighting is awful, nasty burnt out bits and shadows from the direct flash and it looks as though in your attempt to put things right in PP you've really messed up the skin tones.

Also in almost all the pics she is dead centre which is not good composition. If she is meant to be working on the truck you could at least give her a few dirty smudges.

I'm pretty sure he's referring to the really blown out highlights. were you using a tripod? i think you were a little off on your lighting. have you tried reading through the flash lighting section at all? lots of good easy tips... https://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=35

Always do right, this will gratify some people and astonish the rest.

In the "Share" areas IMAGE POSTING RULES only allow 2 attachments by the OP per thread, OR 8 embedded (linked) images, OR a combination of both totaling 8 per thread. (Maximum 1024 pixels on any side.) You can always just post a link to more, though, or better yet, post a link to a gallery so we don't have to click on each image link.
Some exceptions are group threads, like "Show Me...", "Post your best...", equipment reviews, Tutorials, etc.
You may add a few additional photos if requested, but only in a reply to other member's post and request.

And the first shot was at 1/6 sec. Did you use a tripod?
