I'm headed into NYC on Saturday to pick up some things so I figured I'd make a day out of it, take my camera, and walk around to find some good spots to shoot...

Does anybody have any spots that they would recommend to shoot at?

Edit: I meant to post this in the discussions section, sorry if it needs to be moved

So many things to shoot in the city. Go up to the Top of the Rock ( get a all day ticket so you can return for a sunset picture), Grand Central Station, St Patricks Cathedral, Central Park, Empire State Building, Flatiron Building, street photography and last but not least don't leave without a visit to B&H.
Have fun!

If you're going to walk around, pick a part of town that looks interesting and concentrate on it. I used to enjoy "little Italy" in between Broome and Canal St, then wander down to Chinatown and end up at the Brooklyn Bridge. All easily walkable in a day (or much less), and you won't go hungry. If you want more, start in SoHo and walk toward little Italy, then Chinatown and finally the bridge. Again, easily walkable.
There are so many places to take interesting photos in the city, I'd try and narrow your activities to a part of it. Enjoy yourself, it's a great place.

First a couple of questions:
1. where in NYC do you have to go to?
2. what camera/lens(es) are you planning to take?
3. What about city shooting interests you? - such as abstract, buildings, people, etc...

Rick mentioned a route that I have taken myself. it covers a lot of territory with some iconic locations. It is towards the lower portion of Manhattan. If you park down there (I am guessing you are traveling by car), you will be able to end your trip by driving towards Long Island from there as well.
if you do go down there, I say walk over the Manhattan Bridge -via China Town (great location to shoot the Brooklyn Bridge and lower Manhattan skyline, then you can walk back over the Brooklyn Bridge - lots of shooting, I hope you have a number of cards.

just a few of my thoughts...
Pierre

I'm up to go pretty much anywhere, I'll be taking the train into Penn so I won't be driving anywhere, but I don't mind walking a couple of miles at all...I'm going to be taking all my stuff (18-55, 55-250, 50 1.8) and what really interests me are the buildings and landscapes.

I might take the subway up to near Central Park and spend some time there most likely at the Great Lawn and around the reservoir, then give myself a nice little walk down to where you guys suggested and see what I can find. I was definitely looking to shoot the Brooklyn Bridge so this might work out pretty well for me. Thanks for the input guys
