Are the White-LED backlit monitors with IPS screen technology that have recently come onto the market in late 2011 good for photo editing?
Monitors like:
Dell 2312
LG IPS231P
Most of them seem to be 23" widescreens with 1920 x 1080 resolution. The widescreen aspect ratio is obviously not as pleasing as a 16:10, but what I'm mainly concerned about is the color rendition. TFT Central http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews.htm
has reviewed some of these monitors to have excellent color after calibration, but they are not looking at them specifically with photo editing in mind.
24" 16:10
Upon looking a little further, I see Dell also has also released a new 24" addition of this W-LED IPS technology to their venerable for photographers Ultrasharp line, with 1920 x 1200 resolution in a 16:10 aspect ratio. The U2412M. Unlike the U2410, the W-LED backlighting doesn't allow viewing in wide gamut Adobe 1999; but I have little desire to delve into the confused and murky waters of trying to maintain color calibration across various media with wide gamut monitors anyway.
The Dell U2412 is reported to have better contrast and black depth than the U2410. http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2412m.htm![]()
23" PVA
Looking even further, I see there are some W-LED PVA panels coming out now, such as the Samsung F2380
