My Sandisk Extreme 16GB class 10 card broke today, and I'm going to get a new one tomorrow at Best Buy. I can see that I'll have options to replace it with the same Class 10 card marked 30Mb/s, or get one that is labeled 45Mb/s UHS-1 for twice as much money.

I expect they will work identically in-camera, but what I'm really wondering is if I'll see an appreciable difference in time to transfer my photos to my PC. My card reader claims to be UHS compliant. Has anyone used both cards, and if so, have you noticed that photos dump much faster with the better card? Time is money, and I shoot 1000+ photos a week, so a 50% download speed boost would be real savings that I could justify paying a one-time extra $35 for.

The only UHS compliant body currently is the Nikon D7000.

I agree with the OP. The UHS-1 cards should be faster downloading to the computer. However, I just picked up two from Amazon a couple of days ago and have not yet tested them.

Just a note, Sandisk 8, 16 & 32GB Extreme Pro 45 45MBs cards have been discountinued (see B&H) and the new replacement cards are 95MBs. Of course, they are more expensive.

OfficeMax this week happens to have Lexar Platinum II SDHC cards at very attractice prices. I'm puzzled however because the 8 GB (Lexar #LSD8GBBSBNA100) is stated on the actual card as a Class 6. The price is $13 sale and $35 list. In contrast, the 16 GB card (Lexar #LSD16GBSBNA100) is stated on the actual card as a Class 10. The sale price is $22 vs. the list of $55.

Canon 60D won't write more than 21MB/s to any card. Note that SanDisk Ultra 30MB/s cards are slower than that in their writing speed (it's about 10MB/s), so you should get a SanDisk Extreme 45MB/s card. Even newer Canon cameras that support UHS-I (6D/700D/100D/EOSM) won't write faster than 40MB/s. The only Canon cameras that are faster are those that accept CompactFlash cards: 50D attains 70MB/s and 5D Mark III attains 100MB/s to its CompactFlash slot (and 21MB/s to its SD card slot).
