I'm a relative newbie to OCF and currently use a shoot through umbrella to soften my light. Now I'm looking for something with more controll and to reduce spill.

I am considering going with either the QBox24 from Cheetahstand or 46" the Soflighter II. From what I can see, the QBox offers more control (side extensions past the light surface and included grid) but is more costly; whereas the Softlighter has umbrella convenience and is less expensive.

Does anyone have experience with both? If so, which do you prefer? Any other recommendations?

FYI: I tried the Wescott Apollo and really liked the light, control of it, and ease of setup; but I hated the design where the flash/light stand sits inside making it very difficult to tilt/raise/etc.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Different things. I have both and use Qbox24" more even when doing full body. But having both will be nice. Use qBox as main and softliter for fill.

Thanks Bobby. Unfortunately, the budget right now won't allow for both, so I was thinking of using my umbrella as fill when needed.

Interesting, I've used the Softlighter way more than the Qbox because the Softlighter works well as a single light source, due to its size. The qbox is more likely to require fill help from a second source.

I just realized that my AB insert rings from my Einsteins fits perfectly in the Qbox, so I'll probably be using it a lot more now ;)

Dave,

I used Qbox more as I was using hot flash with it. Using hot shoe flash with Softliter was a bit cumbersome and it eats more light. With strobes I would use softliter more but then I started using that SP Systems Octa.
