Red "filter" on the Viper shot would darken the sky some... Make that shock cone read even better.

I spent an age playing with the blue channel to try to darken the sky some as you suggest. I have just tried again too. Pulling the blue channel down any further just ends up with the sky going all blotchy, ugh not nice at all. If I then go until it is almost totally black you then loose the shock cone almost completely. Pulling the blue luminance slider back to -30 in LR dose bring the sky to a really nice dark blue, but it will not translate to the B&W conversion, at least not in LR. I may give it a try in CS5 later and see what that will do.

I think you're right. Shallower depth of field would help that one.
