^Agreed... kinda defeats the purpose of the camera if all you're going to do if use it as an SLR. I don't know, waste of money if you ask me.

If you already own the lenses why not? Only a bit of fun...

Oh I'm sure it is but that Nex-7 is no cheap camera and the lens adapter is a fair amount as well. All in I think it's a little expensive to just have a little fun. It's basically a DSLR now with out the performance benefits of the DSLR.

Just my opinion. Too each their own.

Nice set up OP!

After reading about the NEX5n and NEX7, I am facinated by the concept. Hopefully Canon is going to make us a kick butt mirrorless soon. At that point, our EF and EF-S glass should bolt right on. :-D

Jason, way to go. First, cool idea. I really like the small form factors. My technique has alwasy been to old the lens and drive the body w/ a light touch.

Please let us know what you find useful, clumsy, image quality, using focus peaking for manual focus, etc. Particularly if you find the extra pixels worthwhile in cropping images/absolute resolution, etc. Seems there is a debate as to whether the difference between 16, 18, 21, or 24 has any real world application. (I think there is a real world differnce when there are 50% more pixels)

Seems to signal that w/ the right adapter one can pursue the best glass for the shooting purpose. Seperates lens decision from "body/sensor" decision. The "Sensor" becomes the equivalent of "film" in the olden days, and it has to compete on it's own merit.

Next I suppose comes chipped adapters and full IS/AF functionality?

If you see me with a wrench - call 911. 5d3, T3i, 17-55 2.8, 50 1.8, 70-200 2.8 L II, 24-105 f4. YN 565, Precision Lupe attached to hacked extended eyecup (no sticky frame) - old enough to have owned an original F-1

Point is, I'm sure the OP hasn't purchased the Nex to use Canon lenses with.

As for performance benefits, it depends what performance you need, the Nex seems to hold its own very nicely.

Thanks for taking the time to comment everybody :) I had a feeling a few of you would hold some reservations about this.

I'm just reviewing the Nex-7 and I own all Canon stuff. My wife got me the adapter for Christmas, because I'm constantly reviewing the Sony Nex stuff, so it just makes sense to have one.

Now, for image quality. The 24mp sensor in the Nex-7 according to DXOMark is almost as good as the 5D mark II Full Frame sensor. That is dam good! So, why not put the best glass possible on it to take advantage of the sensor seeing as I already own it all ;)

Real world image quality remains to be seen, but so far looks awesome in my opinion.

Great points and I agree about the pixel debate. I personally would rather have the New canon bad ass 16mp sensor that just came out in their, rather than the 24mp, but that is just me. The Nex-5n had a 16mp and it was better at high ISO for sure. But, in reality ISO 1600 is very clean and comparable to the 5d mark II.

The focus peaking feature is incredible and I used it on the A77 and Nex-5n a lot. I'm sure it will work good on this, but with the adapter and stuff we shall see. Hopefully it's still dead on accurate.

As far as the chipped adapters go: Man I hope so!! That would be awesome.

Here's a few sample pics if anybody is interested, using the Tamron 18-200mm lens:

Thanks again everybody and have a great day!

I'm not sure what the actually model # is, but here is the link to the item on Amazon where I got it:

The blue part is what you turn to close and open the built in iris.

Then why bother with the adapter?

I agree - waste of money. The NEX7 is a nice concept, but the long lenses just make it ridiculous - it's no longer a compact with those lenses they are putting on them.
