I've made a pretty big decision to sell my DSLR gear (which isn't much) because I really want something pocketable at this point in my life.

I was researching S95 vs S100 on Amazon and the S95 gets significantly better ratings. This surprised me some. What are the knocks on the S100 over the S95? Or is this just a case of Amazon reviewers being a bit off as they sometimes are? I read some reviews but they are all over the place. I'm just trying to find the best pocketable camera and I'd love to stay with Canon!

S100 anytime over S95.

the S95 is going to be slightly faster aperture at any shared focal length as well as being significantly cheaper.

The S100 has a wider zoom range and a CMOS sensor which allows slightly better high ISO and higher res video.

I think overall the S100 is a little bit better, but it's not like night and day, just a minor upgrade. So if you can afford it, go S100. If you are price sensitive, the S95 is a close second.

:D
That's pretty decisive. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some huge issue wih the s100.

That snapsort does leave out that the S100 lens drops to f5.9 instead of f4.9 on the S95, though. It's up to 1/2 a stop slower than the S95 at certain focal lengths. Also, the S95 is slightly better at base ISO, but slightly worse at high ISO.

I was impressed by the S95 though gave it away (Merry Christmas Dad) once I used the S100. For me I was getting better shots and videos both from the S100. Wider angle (not much but made a difference) was a big plus. I have yet to use the GPS. But the S100 was hands down the winner for me.
FWIW - Paid $230 for the S95 and $330 for the S100 in after thanksgiving deals.

I suspect that at least one factor in the difference in the ratings may well be that the S95's been around a fair bit longer than the S100. Another is probably that CMOS and CCD can't be treated interchangeably. If you try shooting an S100 just like you did the S95, you won't get the same results. You'll need to adjust settings for the different sensor.

I have yet to see any real good photo's from the S100 there are plenty from the S95, I have an S95 and have taken sample pic's on a S100 and wasn't impressed the adding of more glass to add more zoom seems to have hurt the IQ at lower ISO but the S100 is better at high ISO. This is just mu opinion though.

AM I reading this correctly? MAybe my eyes have a a built in CMOS sensor but I can honestly 100 % say that the images from the S100 are fantastic. I moved from the Nikon P7000 to this and have been much happier with the Canon when most reviews say the P7000 has superb image quality..

I am new to photography and post processing but there are quite a few great images floating around.

S100

Longer reach
Better High Iso
1080p
video with af zoom
smaller form factor
Cmos
Gps- I use mine regularly
24mm

both are good cameras but I felt upon purchase that the S100 did warrant the higher price tag so I went with it.

I think those of us posting in the S100 owners thread are a little insulted... If you look around there are some really great shots from the S100.

The S100 has only been out for a couple months, so that's why you don't see as many reviews. There were some problems with some of the early production models.
Both are great cameras, it's a question of whether you think S100 is worth the extra ~$100. While the extra zoom and wider lens are nice, for me it wasn't worth $130 over the S95. So that's what I bought.
