This is one of my favorite images from my visit to Arches National Park this summer. I got up around 5am and headed out in the dark to get setup and wait for the sun's first light.

Lighting could have been better, it lacks some contrast.

Dedsen,
Elephant Arch is an interesting arch, but not one I'd have gotten up @ 5am to shoot for sunrise. You were right there and could have gotten some incredible shots of Turret Arch through North Window Arch (external link), which is, IMO, far better for morning twilight / sunrise.

The rock formation to the right of the elephants trunk is a bit distracting as well.

Just my opinion. ;)

Have to agree with Pete here, the composition is not what would be my ideal. I too would have looked to shoot something a bit different than this, if I was going to target something. Turret arch is right there and would be more photogenic in my opinion.

I do like that you're targeting the unusual shot though, as there's a ton of Turret arch shots, through the window, etc..

I have several Turret Arch images too.
I have just seen plenty of them before. I thought i would try to be different.

I like the soft morning light in this.I agree that the pillar itself, could stand out a bit more. But I honestly like it the way it is, and the fact that it is daring to be different.
