Hi All,

My wife has been asking me to get a new monitor for about a year now so now I'm ready to take the idea on.

For 6 years I have had a LG L194WT-SF 19" (external link)which has been very good to me over the years and (when calibrated) produced good colours.

So where to now? Well I've readthis great thread (external link) I'm hoping for some good information on what's currently available in the 24-27" range which is both IPS or similar and still good for use for internet and watching movies as this will also be seldom used as a second TV.

My budget is up to $AU1K at a stretch, but likely in the $AU600-800 range.

Opinions? Thoughts?

Hey I've used the exact same LG monitor for a while and just moved to the Dell - UltraSharp U2412M and very happy with that.

But for your budget you can get the better Dell UltraSharp U2410. Dell Australia is selling this for AUD 699 so bang in your budget
- P-IPS panel, bloody good, main difference from U2412M which has an e-IPS panel
- 1920x1200 ie 16:10 res, very handy for the extra real estate
- No HDMI connector, but has a DisplayPort connector and that's the future. Besides can easily get a HDMI - DVD-D adapter as they are the same electrically. Also has composite and component input.

Current: T2i/ 550D || EF 85mm 1.8 USM || 430EX II || Powershot SD880 IS || Manfrotto 190 from the last century || Ubuntu 10.04.4, RawTherapee and GIMP
Old: Nikon FM10 (Manual Film SLR) || Nikon E 50mm f1.8 AI || Nikkor 135mm f2.8 AI

Thanks for your input. I'm also considering the Dell u2711 which had great reviews and a couple of bad ones. Some I have read the stand is not supportive enough and the screen tilt to the side.

Hi Tony, Looks like a perfect but it's at $AU1K that's going to be a bit out of my price range.

I don't have to go for 27".

The U2711 is WAY better than the U2410 (of which I've sent back going on a dozen for color uniformity issues). Mine is perfectly straight and doesn't wiggle in the least.
