I understand that a monitor profile kicks in fractionally after the normal operating system, but this morning was very strange.

I use a photo of Valentino Rossi at Donnington as my desktop image. So it opened, but very, VERY dark, unlike I've ever seen it before. Then it lightened and only after that did I see the profile kick in.

Anyone feel able to offer any clue as to what might have been going on?

It's hard to say exactly (and I'm assuming this is a Windows PC). When you see your desktop image change on startup, that's not exactly the profile kicking in - it's a calibration lookup table (created as part of the profiling process) being loaded into the graphics card. It sounds like your PC started with some weird settings on the graphics card that were cleared, then the lookup table was loaded. It's pretty odd, though!

I find the profile loader kicks in 1-15 seconds after I see the desktop. It doesn't bother me.

Graeme and Tim,

Thanks for chipping in, both of you. I'm not bothered by it, just curious.

First, yes, its a Windows PC (I'm running W7). And this is not the normal delay waiting for the profile to kick in because that never affects the lightness or otherwise. I reckon you have the right idea Graeme.

I prefer to let Windows 7 load the profile itself. Read this link:
