Why do people put that in their listing in the classifieds? If an item is for sale, one would assume it was priced accordingly!

Well, I see the priced to sell and that tells me that it is under market value for a quick sale. That is only accurate about 50% of the time.

Just consider it marketing, like new and improved.

I assumed that, but put my two cents out there just in case.

Probably because it sounds better than "Priced not to sell"

Ah, but there are plenty of threads where this would be more accurate...

Well I put that on two ads today, so I assume (you know what that does) you are referring to me. I apologize I should have had the price way below what it's selling now. I was trying to move merchandise in a hurry to fund a camera on craigslist and thought "price to sell" would get a few more looks. Again I apologize. I couldn't change title after and felt dumb.
I still think $1,050 for a 35L in excellent condition is a smokin deal, considering after feb 4th it will go up to $1400-what I paid.
My 5D I posted priced to sell, is in like new condition for a great price as well...

Nope...wasn't referring to you or anyone else in particular. Just thought it was odd that so many used this line in a title...then again...I'm a bit odd so maybe it's just me!

I wasn't thinking of anyone in particular either, but had noticed the uptick in the phrase's use. There have also been a few listings with "firm" prices that have dropped 3-5% per update over the course of a few days/weeks. It seems to me that if someone is firm, then they would rather keep it than take less than the stated amount. People are free to change their mind, but the choice of wording keeps striking me odd...

If they would just add one word it wouldn't be as silly: "Priced to sell quickly"

The funny thing is since you posted this, it appeas like other sell post is using that now catch phrase.

About 50% of the time? How statistically accurate!!!

If the phrase "Priced to sell" sounds stupid (which it does), remember that sellers are just people, and half the people out there are below average in intelligence.
