Anybody into doing some night shooting the week of the 21st? I'll be staying downtown and don't really want to wander too much by myself.

Mich. ave is pretty safe -g-....Head up to the Hancock building, not to far north of where you will be and get some dusky skyline shots with the Sears Tower and the Standard Oil building in the shots.. The Hancock has the best views of the city in my opinion.

Good to know, Allen. I'm hoping to get some shots both around where I'm at as well as other parts of town.

How do you get around the no tripod thing at the Hancock and Sears towers?

I haven't been up in either in years. They used to let you up with tripods. You are going to be in a very populated area. A block from the river to the south. A few block from Water Tower Place. You should have no shortage of things to shoot. And I'll get ya out to some of the more interesting neighborhoods. The places most tourists don't go.

A member, iamhydrogen, had some shots that said he rested them on the window sills. I', pretty sure you can't take tripods up there anymore. If you stay in the loop, you'll be fine alone. If you start going south or too far west you may have issues. But I've never gotten anything from people in Chicago. The only time I was harassed was in Aurora, IL.

Some parts of Aurora can be dicey, the next town east, Naperville (where I live) has a nice downtown and a nice riverwalk, complete with old quarry ponds and a bell tower.

Naperville/Aurora is almost it's own mini metro area. Combined population is around 300,000. Lots of good places to shoot, I just don't get out enough with the camera these days.

You can take small tripods in the JHC building. The little 6" tall ones. Just place the camera on the floor. Thats how I did it.

Well, Willis has told me if they see a tripod, you'll be asked to put it away. They do allow them for private tours on the 99th floor, I might just do that.

I have a Joby and a monopod is being delivered to Chicago so I might have enough options. I'm still planning on doing some night photography though if anyone wants to join me. It'd be nice to have someone that knows the area.
