SITUATION RESOLVED. Thank God! Lesson learnt: BACK UP and actually -remember- that I did.

Oh my god I need help now. On Mac OS X leopard not snow not lion.

I am picking video clips for a huge corporate/industrial video, and I had 2 folders for 2 cameras named A and B. I created same-name sub-folders in each of the big folders (A and B).

I then thought maybe I should combine both folders. I moved the sub folders in A to one folder, and I wanted to move the contents of sub folders in B over as well. But I accidentally pressed "replace" when mac asked me to. CMD-Z does nothing to bring back A-camera clips that I 'replaced'.

I have no known backup, the CF cards have been formatted. CRAP. HELP ME.

Yikes! I wish I had any helpful ideas -- I don't use a Mac, but I don't know how you could fix that on any OS!

You might want to check out image/data recovery software -- it's possible that "replacing" the files didn't actually overwrite the disk data, in which case it could potentially be recovered!

not sure about Macs but there are several Windows recovery software you can run on the cards --- even in their formatted state! :)

How long were they on the Mac before you overwrote them?

Can you restore a Time Machine image that still has all of them?

Okay I just replaced 5 of 9 of the clips because the first part shoot CF card wasn't touched. But I'm still missing the crucial 4. Will try recovery software and point it to the affected folder!

The sad thing is that I don't Time Machine since I had problems with it about 5 months ago. BUMMER.

Sweet! And maybe some recovery software can help out here. Fingers crossed.

"Woe to thee, for thy foolishness hath made thee epic fail."

Anyone know a free mac recovery software that can be pointed to a particular folder? Currently I'm running one that's scanning the entire 500gb drive.

Holy smokes. I dodged a bullet here. I realised I had a complete backup of everything on another drive and did it the moment I returned home.

Sorry for the drama guys, and thanks for all your help! This is what working on a video from 4-6am in the morning does to you (7.30 am here now).

Well, that's good news, and a good reminder of having a good backup habit!
