Great confusion and I went through that as well...

I got a sturdy BG stand from Amazon.. It is Heavy duty and will not fail you..

http://www.amazon.com …ef=oh_o06_s01_i00_details (external link)

but I got tired of the muslin being wrinkled and too narrow, because the ones I got were only 6 feet wide. I could not have gone any wider, because of the tripod feet from the stands.

Now, I have transferred to paper. I got this bracket from Fortodiox that I still have to hang up

http://www.amazon.com …-Background/dp/B004G1400A (external link),

but I have already figured out that I will have 4 to5 feet more shooting space in my small studio.

A 9ft wide roll is anywhere from $40-60. Rolls are 107" wide and 36ft long.

I stopped by a local fabric outlet store to see what I could find. Most of their stuff is 4 1/2 to 5 ft wide which is okay for my little set up. I found a black heavy fabric (don't even know what it is) and had 8 ft cut off. Cost me $14 and works great. No wrinkles - hangs from my curtain rod in front of a double window. Very pleased so far.

I got the above background stand. I was surprised at the size of the stands. More solid and a wider base than my 10' stands. But I guess it has to be solid for the 12' width. I would normally use it with one less section rather than use the full 12'. And sometimes I will use my regular light stands for the background and use the larget background stands from this kit for my 6' Octabox. For the cost I think this is great.

You want heavy duty? here is a monster for you

It is easy to set up. Some of the reviews talk about an allen screw for the center extension rod, but these days they come with a spring loaded stud that pops up when you extend it.

I bought this and used it with all my muslins. I have not hung my seamles paper rill on this but I don't see an issue. I have put this away since I am installing a wall system for the seamless, but if you want me to, I can set it up and hang the paper and see if the rod bends.

I built a nice stand that can go from 5 feet tall to 10 feet tall that is ten feet wide for about $18 using PVC pipe. Assembles from 6 different pipes in about a minute. It lacks in the sturdiness department, but, it doesn't exactly need to be for my needs. It holds up my muslin background, and thats as sturdy as it needs to be.
