Yes and I don't think it works here unless we're selling parkas.
In the last one I think we need more of the kid in the frame.

How did you do your selective colouring in pic 1, because it looks as though you've missed on some of the edges and made it look like a double exposure.

I quite like 2 &3 but as stated above a little bit more of the boy in the frame would have been nice.

Looks like it is some sort of double exposure phenomenon to me, not a sloppy selective colour job. Maybe a flash fired on a longer exposure or something?

Thanks for the input guys. This is not a selective color PP... I basically played around with the LR3 to mimic 3 Dimensional POP using the combination of composition and PP, so that it does not appear flat more obvious on picture 2. It mimics a very subtle high dynamic range effect also.

The original picture is basically more of a dull black , white and gray due to snow, black concrete and hazy surrounding. This is around noon and my kit lens did not have any haze or circular polarizer attached to it. The only color that pop is the blue jacket. The pants is color black too..So when I desaturate the color, and bring vibrance up a bit, the blue color shows up, but I wanted the surrounding to look like a black and white (picture 1 and 2) with more dynamic range into it...

Highlights were down due to hazy surrounding. Regarding the double exposure (picture1) was just the slow shutter effect to mimic movement.... No tricks involved.

My primary goal is to create that 3D look or pop in the picture... It seems like I achieved it on picture 2. If I look at it on a Mac computer I could almost touch that telescope...!

BTW, pic 2 is a B&W conversion .

I like the treatment you've given these images. The compositions are quite good, I think. You could lose a bit off of the right side of #1 without hurting the composition. The right portion of the shot contributes little and would not be missed. Perhaps crop between the two trees on the right? The vignette on #2 could be lightened a bit, but the image displays well as is. The vignette in #3 could be feathered a little more to make it less obvious.

The best thing about this series is the fact that you have taken average, everyday surroundings and produced some images that are interesting, thought provoking and enjoyable to look at.

Regards,
Mark

Composition can’t be reduced to a set of rules ... Dissonance has its place in photography as well as music. If we confined ourselves to major and minor scales, the blues wouldn’t exist. Rules are tools, not laws.” ~ James Martin

I am glad you like the PP. Thanks for the positive feed back and tips. Picture 1 , on the upper right side between the right trees , about 4 miles away is downtown Milwaukee skyline that is why I did not crop that much .
