What did you do last weekend? There is a line in the hole but you can't really make it out. You can see the fishing rod on the chair. Later the crew showed up and we had a bonfire and a few cocktails. In four months the boat will be out here.

The red arrow shows where my cottage is located. Nopiming Provincial Park, Manitoba in Canada's boreal forrest.

Sure. If any POTN photogs are in the area let me know.

A couple of small Walleye. We can get to a few bigger lakes where the fish a bigger. Last winter I caught a master angler Perch through the ice on one of them. I have yet to catch an MA Walleye through the ice on those lakes.

13 inches. A nice fat one to boot. My wife let me keep in on the living room wall until we took it to the lake. I surprised her with it on the wall and she surprised me by letting me leave it there :)

Nice mount, I like the fish. I drive by our many lakes here in N. Idaho and see people fishing on the ice. I assume it's cold, and it must be they don't know the way to the grocery store where one can buy a fish. I just don't get it.

It is like being really into photography. I know many people who don't get that either. I have to admit after all expenses - boats, snowmobiles, clothing, gas, bait, etc my fish cast me about $500 a pound ;) Then again find me a hobby that is not expensive. Photography is certainly not one as my wife found out. I grew up with this so it is hard to describe. Nothing like being out in the wilderness, taking on the elements with your pals (we have been in trouble), cooking smokies over the fire. Happy hour with the lake crew on the ice or in a cottage is one of the highlights of my life. The girls also come out from time to time. They tend to spend the most time by the fire.

Nice. Your trees are a little bigger, but otherwise, it's a lot like home. A bit further North than you, up in Gillam MB. We don't usually start ice fishing until March.

How much ice you got?

Nice scene, and great to have the cottage there!

I grew up trout fishing, mostly roaming around the Sierra Nevadas Range in California, Spring/Summer/Fall days, so never got into ice fishing...

Until a visit to Alaska, late November so snow and ice prevailed, and a friend took me out onto a local lake where there was a little "shed" with an ice hole...

I think we caught a few (this was probably 30 years ago). I do remember later pondering over the fact that I didn't have an Alaska license and so could have gotten in trouble...

Anyway, my one and only ice fishing experience!

Hello. Between 1 1/2 to 2 feet. Solid. The water is so low this year we can ride the creeks. Second time in the 30 years that can remember.

I love boating, drinking beer/liquor is OK, eating fish is great. It's the stuff in between that doesn't interest me. However, I'm thankful that some do my fishing for me.
