I ask this, because I have been lucky enough to be fit my entire life.
I went out on an early morning hike (strenuous -by the description of the hike) Sunday. It was 6 degrees F.
Man, did I struggle - I had to stop 1/2 up the trail. Now mind you I have not exercised in a while and my eating habits are not entirely poor. I am in my mid 50s and I am just a few pounds overweight. I can see if I want to continue hiking and photographing I am going to have to change some of my habits. This is the very first time in my life of hiking (nearly 45yrs) that I have struggled.

What is your age, and how do you keep (or try to keep) fit?

just a few of my thoughts...
Pierre

P90X in the winter. Cycling in the warmer months. It does not really matter what you do as long as you are doing some sort of workout.

Running,MTB and Gymnastics, Ive stopped weight training over the last year and feel better for it.
I wish I'd started gymnastics and the rings years ago (38 now).
Ive been in the Marines 20 years so I keep active at work as well.
Ive noticed that if I eat all I want the weight soon starts to creep up :-)

Tennis and Surfing. Living in Southern California where it's 70 and sunny 360 days of the year is great for this.

I walk for an hour every night and bike and hike a lot during summer. I also tried nordic walking for a while, but for some reason it gave me terrible neck/shoulder pain.

I put my road bike on my Kinetic trainer (dual fly wheel model, I use both and have an 18 lb flywheel) and ride it an hour, avg speed 16.5 mph, 6 days a week. I raced bikes and played water polo in college, I really enjoy riding. As soon as the weather is decent I get it off the trainer and ride outside for about 90 mins a day. When I'm in Hawaii I swim in the ocean for 60 to 90 mins, again 6 days a week. I've found biking there just too dangerous. I'm 65 years old.

Walking, cycling, and a newly acquired elliptical for when I'm too lazy to leave the house.

Weight training and cycling. I just started running since I'm hooked to those Vibram Five Finger shoes.

I'm in my 30s and have gone from 6' 195 lbs and 5% body fat at about 24yrs old to a soft 185, lol.

I USED to run and lift weights but lately......ugh. No time. I just try to eat right and convince myself I will get back in the gym. :-(

Higgs - you have to make time for this. Trust me, when you get my age (65) you'll be happy you did.

I know I have always been the proponent and was always on my own father for years about it but I can see myself letting it slip. You are right, it's a personal time management thing and I probably have to let something else go in the interest of my long term health....

Does jumping to conclusions count as exercise?

Yes, if you keep to a schedule. ;)
