I just had to share this with some people who would understand. Yesterday I went on a 7 mile hike with my son and some of his high school friends. Among thefour lenses I took along my brand new, Canon 10 to 22 lens that I had used only one time before, and only owned for 10 days. It was a stunning hike here on the Sonoma Coast. Views of the ocean and the Russian River. When we returned and I unpacked my backpack, the lens was missing. $750 gone. Well this morning I went to the ranger station at Sonoma Coast State Beach, and someone had found and turned in my new lens. I guess Christmas does come more than once a year. I have the man's name, and I am going to buy him one heck of a dinner.

Great story! A $50 gift certificate would be a nice gesture, considering the value of the lens.

Wow, thats great that someone actually turned it in, let alone found it!

I think I am going to start hanging out with professional wildlife photographers, or at least some of the places they shoot at in hopes of stumbling across a 600mm f/4L IS that was left behind.

Take him to Dante's diner.
Whomever turned it in thinks they're getting a great reward when in reality you'll be taking advantage of the screaming POTN discount Dante offers all visiting members. :) :)

Very nice to know there are stand-up, honest people still around.

Cheers

Great story! It warms my heart that honest people do exist. I agree that this guy deserves a big thank you and a nice reward!

I am really glad to hear that. I was gonna say, if you didn't get it back, there are some used @b&h for under $500. ;)
