I am getting a 5DMII soon and currently shoot with a 60d, so I am going through a lens reconfiguration that will best suite both bodies, but am having some problems figuring out the wide angle focal lengths.

For those who have both a crop and FF, do you have an UWA lens that works well on both? I currently have a tokina 11-16 and from what I've read this lens shows noticeable vignetting from 11-14 when used on a FF.

Possible alternatives I'm considering are below.

-Sell tokina 11-16 and canon 17-55. Purchase zeiss 21mm or 18mm
-Keep tokina 11-16 and sell canon 17-55. Purchase 24-105.
-Sell tokina 11-16 and canon 17-55. Purchase canon 16-35.

If you don't need the speed, also consider the 17-40 F/4 L.

27mm (17-40 on crop) is not particularly wide. I'd recommend modding a 10-22 to EF mount. You can shoot at 16mm effective on crop and 16mm on FF.

Wait til you get the 5DII and see how you like shooting that wide.

i'd concentrate on ef lenses for your FF body since the 60d will likely become a back-up or dust collector.

i use the 16-35L II on FF but i would also recommend the 17-40L.

There is only one true UWA for both.

Sigma 12-24mkII. its not the best lens but its pretty good ( a lot better than mk1).

Hi there,

I just got the 16-35mm II last week, I'm really loving it on my 5D II, very fun to shoot with it. No regrets for getting it :)

Cheers.

Depends on your goals. For deep DOF type of UWA shooting where you will be at f/8 or more most of the time, I actually think the EF-S 10-22 on a 1.6X body performs better than the EF 17-40L on FF.

For fast needs (low light or shallow DOF) then you can't touch the 16-35L on FF. f/2.8 on a FF camera is much better for this application than even the 11-16 Tokina on 1.6X.

For both, get the 16-35.

27mm (17-40 on crop) is not particularly wide. I'd recommend modding a 10-22 to EF mount. You can shoot at 16mm effective on crop and 16mm on FF.

And if you mess up and click the shutter on FF at 10mm, BAM goes your mirror...from what I've read. Not worth it.

I don't see why 16mm on crop isn't wide enough if you have both crop and FF - use the FF if you need wider or are doing landscape. For portrait/studio work, 16mm on crop is fine for quite a lot.

Thanks for all the advice.

Windpig is probably right, I should wait till I get a chance to familiarize myself with the 5DMII before selling or buying any lenses. I just want to make sure I get the most bang for my buck out of my lens investments.

I'd keep the 11-16mm tokina lens....
But if you REALLY want to sell it, then get an 18mm prime. But i still say keep the 11-16

17-40 and 16-35 are hardly UWA on crop.
To my knowledge the only lens that is designed for FF and still considered UWA on APS-C is Sigma 12-24.

I'd suggest selling the ef-s 17-55 and picking up 17-40L and with the remainder and a bit extra, a 50/1.4

with the tokina 11-16, why not keep it?
You'll have the crop, where you can use it no probs.
You can use it as a 15-16 f/2.8 on the ff
and it doesn't overlap with any other lens
