Hello!

I'm thinking about converting from Nikon to Canon... and I'm thinking about the 5d mark II. Reason why I'm converting is because of the video feature that I want to get. I read somewhere that the 5d mark ii is a pretty standard camera in the industry for video.

I also heard that the mark III is coming out? Should I wait for this and/or wait for the price to drop? Will the price even drop if a new camera comes out?

Can someone give an opinion as to which camera I should look into?

Thanks!

The 5D2 is an excellent photography and video tool...however, no one here can give you anything beyond speculation as to what the 5D3 will look like or when it will be released...nothing has been so much as breathed or hinted about it from Canon. If you go by the numbers...the 5D came out in '05, whereas the 5D2 in '08, so the time is about right for a 5D3, but Canon doesn't always work in predictable ways :)

If you are really interested in the mkii for its video prowess, then get it. It can be found for a really good price now and you already know it will be an excellent stills camera as well. Shooting video with a DSLR is different than shooting with video cameras, not harder, just different. You already know it will give you beautiful video.

thanks for the input guys.

I'm not too sure about canons but if anyone know historical prices, does the price trend decline significantly if a new upgrade comes around? I mean if 5d3 comes out soon, then I might as well wait, but if it doesn't then i'd get the 5d2, or if the price will pretty much be inline.
