Yikes! that's awfully close to his eyes. You do know you shouldn't shine it in their eyes dont you, I wouldn't even do it for a fraction of a second. Please be careful with it.
I love the look of these dogs, I've never met one in "person" what are they like in personality and temperament?

One of the oldest known primative breeds.
They are independent, aloof, stubborn and determined, very smart and observent.
Not very big on cuddling and being handled but very devoted to their servants. They are masters of manipulation and learn very quickly how to push your buttons to get what they want.

Ok...RDR must have had a Shiba sometime in the past.
Yes, Kiba is very intelligent. We've trained him to ring a bell hanging near the door when he needs to go out. He figured out he can ring it and get instant attention when we are off doing something that doesn't include dogs.
we trained him to sit....but he will only sit when he WANTS something. Same with 'down', 'settle', 'sing', etc. If he doesn't want to do the command, he will look away and selectively not hear us.

He's not big on being handled, though he will accept a strong scratch now and then. And he absolutely LOVES cleaning your feet when you are sitting or laying on the couch. Hope you're not ticklish.
He's afraid of anyone he doesn't know, and will bark incessantly if strangers are around. It took my friends three months of coming over every day to get him used to them.
And yes, he does manage to push my buttons. Frequently.

And don't tell the wife...but yes, I actually do love the little s*** sometimes.

Unfortunately, he does have one issue. He started having seizures after he turned 2yo. From what I've read on the net, that's a fairly common issue with the Shiba breed.
so we give him phenobarb twice a day.

And no, we don't let the laser get in his eyes. In that shot, he stuck his nose down there before the wife moved it. Normally she's got him running back and forth from the kitchen to the bedroom. He's like the Energizer Bunny. He never gets tired.

Here he is tracking goose-poo in the fresh snow. in case you all didn't know it...goose-poo is like candy to Shiba's. (EWW!)

Taken with my Canon 550d/T2i with Canon Zoom EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 zoomed to 300mm. Camera was on full auto. No post-processing other than changing size to fit the forum.

That was my thought as well... can you say laser surgery. Otherwise a cute photo.

Look how similar in the face they are to the Australian Dingo which is basically an Asian wolf, also very similar to the New Guinea singing dog which doesn't bark, neither do Dingos.

What I find funny is everyone that sees Kiba says "he looks just like a fox".

As an ex-biologist, I don't think he looks that much like a fox, more like a Husky left in the dryer too long.

he shrank :)
