I just bought a 20D w/18-55 lens, 100-400L, 100 Macro, and a monopod. I need a decent carrying case. Thought about a backpack, but dont think they are user friendly when you need to make a quick lens change. Being that the 100-400 is so bulky, looking to people who might have a similar setup to guide my bag purchase.

thanks

Consider gear from http://www.newswear.com/pouches.htm (external link)
I am used to wearing gear on the hips. Its quick and easy.
I just don't like weight on the back -its too hot. I currently use 2 bodies with a WA and a small tele (and a plastic 50 just in case). I'm lucky I don't do sports where you need long white lens etc. I'll load optional stuff like LW tripod, flash and diffuser, folded reflector and a raincoat in a small (lightweight) shoulder bag perhaps, depending what the shoot is and how far from the car I'm going to be.

I'm going to have to upgrade soon and I am thinking of getting one of the Army green Canon backpacks.

As seen here

Seem so thave a fair bit of storage. I guess it depeds how much you need to carry.

thanks for the replies, i like the idea of the backpack, but don't see them being practical when u want to change lenses or filters in a hurry!

having the backpack open so you can see all the equipment is way easier than a top loading bag. I think it would be way easier to get to the lenses etc.

I don't like the backpack zips -takes 2 hands etc. Thats why I like velcro, as long as there's lots of it... do you want a pic of my pouches? For a belt... well I used a surprisingly cheap ex-army 2.5in nylon belt. Strong is an understatement! In uniform we use them to carry a lot, way more than this camera stuff. And the army bat-belt (velcro) stuff has never let me down thru running, jumping and anything else.

I have this bag and I love it. It keeps your equipment very secure and protected. There is a center section that unzips to give you access to your camera and attached lens without opening the whole bag and exposing your other gear. It also has a laptop compartment. It can also be used as part of a system with other Kata bags/accessories. Admittedly, it is not the cheapest backpack out there.
