These are just a few quick snapshots from today because I may not see it for a while if I've done my job right. I was asked to do several different things that had the owner (who with the help of a friend) stuck, some was electrical, some mechanical, and some was getting the door & quarter trim fitted correctly which was a bit of a job thanks to repro doors & repro trim panels. Some will like the color, some won't but the owners kids talked him into the paint / interior scheme vs the blue he had in mind. I personally dig it, and so does my wife & most customers who've seen it in my garage. It's not finished yet & it will be getting new wheels that are more like a real Yenko, but it's now where he can take over & know he's going to get it finished the way he wants.

I know that all to well since my screen name stands for Cast Iron Central Office Production Order which was the license plate on the non Yenko version I once owned. Sold it & used the money to build a very nice storage building many years ago & to date no regrets.

Cast Iron Central Office Production Order

That was a well kept secret! Were you working for GM?

Who cares, a clone looks the same......and you can enjoy driving it around, without hurting the value. Those clone restorations are excellent just for that reason.

Mine dad sold his '69 Camaro Z/28 a few years ago.....so I have a love for the 1st gen Camaros.....especially the '69. Post some more pics after some work is done.

Anyone who knows GM performance cars knows COPO, so not exactly a secret. I do agree it's a really cool nickname!

I dig the Yenko clone, although I'm not totally sold on the dayglo interior. I probably would have done plain old black, but then again I'm kinda boring! ;)

I did work for a GM dealership way back but bought the car (COPO) I owned just after starting my own business. Back then there was very little factual info about them & it took a lot of research / time getting proof that it was indeed the real thing, but it had been to hell & back based on some of the collision damage hiding under body filler. Fortunately it hadn't rusted out like the majority of cars locally. Now we have the internet & getting good info is much easier.
Re more photos once it's completed that all depends on whether he brings it back next summer for my help. The owner is relatively skilled & has done several cars over the years & all of them were show quality. Right now he is working the final nit picks of finishing a very nice 70 Chevelle convertible which is also cloned as an SS and has an LS 6 crate motor (the original style of LS 6 which he bought in the early 80's & put away). so if either show up next summer I'll get some decent photos.
The Camaro interior is unique, but it's also one that was offered in the option list. Here's the link to a Z-28 with it.

I had to convince him that the trim around the package tray should have been black & not high gloss body color, which was how it had been painted. Had he left it that way the dash lights would have been reflected onto the rear glass making it both distracting & hard to see through at night. The above link proved my line of thinking.

"Knows" now, maybe, but we're talking 1969 here, & even the dealers didn't know that much.
For example, when the dual points on my '69 383 Cuda were sticking, the dealer in the heart of Highland Park told me to put in a Chevy part! :D
